"Ballroom culture, in the late 20th century, was an underground Latino and African-American Queer subculture in New York City. Ballroom revolved around drag pageants, in which most participants were members of chosen communities referred to as ""houses"". Ballroom was popularised in the late 80s/early 90s, which saw the release of 'Paris is Burning' (an influential documentary about Ballroom) and the rise of voguing, a kind of dance. Ballroom has a strong contemporary cultural influence in mainstream dance, slang, music, and fashion, and in drag.
